Eating organic is currently the most popular trend that hit food during the last few years. With the increase in the demand for organic foods, and a growing awareness about the benefits, it’s obvious that this type of food is here to stay. People are becoming more and more aware of what they are eating, and are consciously opting for healthier options. One of the biggest questions people have is, “If I am eating organic foods, why did I before just eat the conventionally prepared foods?” Conventional foods are highly processed and contain high amounts of additives, sweets, and chemicals.
The misconception that opting for organic means you’ll get chemical free food. It’s not true. Organic foods are just as good as the conventional foods, and in some cases you can’t taste a difference. In addition, organic foods are not Nations willing to risk the health of their children by eating foods contaminated with dangerous pesticides and chemicals. By growing organic foods, you also run the risk of producing fresher produce, and hence fresher meat and eggs.
For example, grass fed beef contains higher amounts of beneficial beef characteristics than grain fed beef. Thanks to the antibiotics and hormones given to feedlot cattle, they have in average, a 40% higher amount of body fat. Cereal grain fed beef carries a considerably higher amount of this fatty acid. Organic however, is a much lower percentage of this fatty acid making it much healthier to eat. Its 40% less fat than conventionally raised cattle gives it lower cholesterol levels than conventional beef.
Becoming Eco-friendly
While grass fed beef may be healthier on the planet, it is also a little more expensive to process. The reason being that grass fed cattle requires more energy to be produced. So you are paying for more beef, when you could be getting it from the feedlot.
An alternatively, is it possible to buy organic food and cut back on conventional meats? It is actually possible. The great news is that it is very easy, and the process is fun and can be done with as little as a gas grinder. The important thing is that you are not going to pay twice as much for your home-grown burgers as you would for your store-bought burger. In fact, you probably won’t even pay that much more, because you are buying the burger meat itself, not the beef from the cow.
For a start, you don’t have to worry about the health implication of the grain fed beef. Though some doctors will recommend it, there are wide differences between grain fed and grass fed beef.
Why is that? Well, it’s because grass fed beef is really all about being lean. That is the main reason that it is lean. But it is not like traditional beef. Because of the grain fed process, it has a lot more fat than other beef. So this makes it even healthier than it normally is.
Despite the fat content, beef that is raised regularly still has to eat beeficides to get rid of E. Coli and/orNFiral growth. So they do well on grain, bean, and corn feed lots. This is important to know if you are into learning about food safety.
Organic, on the other hand, does not need to do things the same way. For example, they make their own meat and even their own milk. They rarely use hormones or antibiotics. The last thing that you will ever see at a natural organic food store is something that has been genetically modified. Yes, you heard correctly. After about 5 minutes looking at the organic certification, you thought to yourself, I don’t know about that.
The major difference with organic meat is that animals are always free range. That means they have a great deal more animal protein, and they are able to have time outside. Sometimes this is a huge plus all by itself. But generally, they are not pumped full of antibiotics and they are generally hormone free. Because of this, you will want to know that the kind of diet and living conditions that an animal is living is going to directly affect the quality of the meat and the quality of the milk.
Go to a natural organic food store and you will find that there are quite a few regular grocers around. If you are an organic foods freak, then you may even want to shop at an organic produce store. That is where you will find all of your favorite organic items. It is kind of like going to the grocery store and finding you can buy everything but the meats. Yes, there are quite a few organic meats that you can buy at the store today, but many of them cost over $100 a pound. Overdose? Yes, but the price for organic is far less than what you would pay for non-organic meat. How can you justify that?
