Going Raw? There’s Reasons Beyond Avocado

People are increasingly turning to a diet rich in whole foods to help them remain fit and healthy. Raw foods are already available, but primarily in the form of juices and bottled foods. There is no question that these products are delicious and can be nutritious. However, they are not a perfect replacement for raw foods in your everyday diet. In fact, they can be quite detrimental to your health.

Just broiling or baking meat, fish, or chicken is not the healthiest option. In fact, regular intake of batter can actually cause unhealthy fats and caloric decay. What’s better is to simply go the organic way and to make your own natural batter. So if you’re game to make the switch, make sure you’re well stocked in the kitchen and don’t forget the baking tools.

Eggs

Eggs are considered bad, given the cholesterol content. However, this is not entirely true. Like everything else, eggs are actually incredibly healthy and extremely nutritious. These nutrients are found in great amounts in eggs. You really need to look for the high quality organic eggs to get them at their best. By the way, it’s important to wash them before you cook them, as cooking them will greatly reduce their nutritional value.

Yogurt

Unlike eggs, yogurt is considered a dairy-free product. While it still has a creamy texture, you can enjoy it with almost any food. Yogurt can be used to improve the taste of any food. For example, you can use it to improve the flavor of baked potatoes, as well as toast and even ice cream.

Canned Sausage and Peas

This type of item is usually made with beans and other legumes. Unfortunately, the dairy and meat content is high. Still, it’s a great substitute for red meat in some situations and an excellent alternative for vegetarians. In fact, it’s often considered a ‘superfood’ – one of the most popular meats available is actually a vegetarian choice!

Nuts

Various forms of nuts are often used as Canada’s ubiquitous meat. Hazelnuts are perhaps the most well known, as they are often featured in savory candy in the form of the ever-popular wafer. Popcorn nuts are another alternative, as are cashews, almonds, and Brazil nuts.

Oatmeal

The most popular type of oatmeal is the rolled oats that are open-weave. This is a form of rolled oats that has been specially processed to remove the 2% fat present in the regular instant kind. Open-weave oatmeal is a delicious way to enjoy quick oats in a very convenient form. The fiber content of the instant kind is often removed to allow for quick oats, and the moisture is often correspondingly reduced.

Brown Rice

Another healthy alternative to white rice is brown rice. This should be eaten with brown rice and your meal should be balanced as it is very filling. The unusual advantage of brown rice is that it absorbs liquid particularly well. It is also very low in sodium and absorbs another 12% of moisture.

Turmeric

This popular spice can be used in several forms. Turmeric and curry are the most well-known forms of the spice. Like other curries it also contains the substance known as Curcumin, which has been shown to help reduce the risk of cancer. Turmeric also adds a nice color and a wonderful flavor to your meals. Add a little turmeric to your usual dishes, or make a turmeric salad for a nice lunch.

Parsley

Parsley is known as the King of Spices. It is very pungent and has a very distinctive flavor. It is often used in stir-fries and is a great alternative to mint. Both have a very wonderful flavor and are very healthy as well. They not only add a great flavor, but also color to your meals.

Blueberries

Blueberries are not something you see a lot of people using in their baking, but they should be. They are sweet and the flesh can be used in many ways. Paleo recipes often use the flesh of the blueberry as a form of sugar in their desserts. The flesh is also enjoyed by itself without any further processing.

Honey

Honey has a particular place in the pantry because it is the source of many sweet substances. It is sweeter than sugar and can be used to feed the family pet, making it a real all purpose food. You can also use honey in your baking recipes, but be careful that the amount is just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. Paleo recipes often use honey in their baked goods because of its sweetness.

Stevia

Erving this sweet herb is another way of using sweetness in your Paleo diet. You can substitute it for sugar or even a sweetie such as maple syrup, as many do for example honey and molasses.
